The Kent, Washington Chamber of Commerce is seeking a talented, passionate, entrepreneurial leader to serve in the role of Chief Executive Officer.
 
The City of Kent is in southern King County, approximately halfway between Seattle and Tacoma.  Kent is the sixth largest city in Washington State with a diverse population of more than 128,000 residents, with over 130 different languages spoken.  Kent is a key component of Washington’s global economy distinguished as the fourth largest warehouse distribution center in the nation.  
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
 
The CEO of the Kent Chamber of Commerce serves as the face of the Chamber, acting as a community leader, business advocate and ambassador.  The CEO collaborates with other business and civic organizations to improve the local business climate for Chamber members.  Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is the Chamber’s chief staff officer, leading the organization to fulfill its vision, mission and objectives.  The ideal candidate is a proven leader and consensus builder who can promote cooperation, collaboration and partnerships.  The successful candidate will be a hands-on, politically astute, strategic thinker who will quickly and effectively respond to challenges and provide creative solutions.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Chamber; responsible for strategic planning, finances, membership engagement and retention, hiring and supervision of staff and volunteers
  • Cultivate funds through member investments, events and programs, sponsorships, advertising and grants to ensure programs and events are sustainable and continue to grow
  • Participate in community initiatives as well as regional and state-wide business and economic-related events
  • Promote and oversee strategic relationships with elected officials, nonprofits, educational and community leaders, and local businesses
  • Attend all meetings of the Board, Executive Committee and Finance Committee; may attend all other Chamber committee meetings as well
  • Ensure monthly reports are provided to the Board on the status of operations of the Chamber and various committees of the Chamber
  • Attend meetings of the Kent City Council, and other governmental bodies as appropriate, when issues important to the Chamber are being discussed
  • Oversee all official correspondence and publicity for the Chamber
  • Serve as Chamber representative on area Boards of Directors and advisory committees as required
 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, political science or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of management experience ideally in public sector or not-for-profit organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic business plans and manage the tactical execution to achieve results
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a credible reputation and presence in the community on behalf of an organization
  • Ability to listen with an open-mind to perspectives of all members, leaders and constituents
  • Ability to develop and motivate teams to achieve and overdeliver outstanding performance
  • Proven excellence in written and oral communication
  • Experience in soliciting and securing sponsorship dollars from public and private sectors
  • Experience successfully collaborating with elected officials and regional business leaders
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people, including monthly board meetings, business lunches and large annual conferences
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend events
SALARY RANGE:
$65,000 to $85,000 DOE
