DAWN (Domestic Abuse Women’s Network) is seeking a dedicated Shelter Advocate to join our team on weekends. This is an ideal role for someone looking to make a direct impact while maintaining a flexible, part-time schedule.

Position Details:
Title: Shelter Advocate
Schedule: Saturday & Sunday, 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Location: South King County, WA
Compensation: $25/hour

Who We Are:
DAWN (Domestic Abuse Women’s Network) is a holistic domestic violence agency in South King County dedicated to supporting survivors and working toward ending domestic violence. We provide emergency shelter, mobile advocacy, legal support, mental health services, and more—meeting survivors where they are and offering them the tools to rebuild their lives.

What You’ll Do:

As a Shelter Advocate, you will provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered support to individuals and families residing in our emergency shelter. Key responsibilities include:

Advocacy & Crisis Support
  • Offer compassionate, empowerment-based advocacy and safety planning.
  • Connect survivors with resources and accompany them to critical appointments.
  • Respond to calls on our 24/7 crisis line with immediate support and referrals.
Shelter & Community Support
  • Help prepare shelter spaces for new residents.
  • Collaborate with staff and external service providers.
  • Assist with community donations, including pick-ups and drop-offs.
Administrative & Team Support
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and mandatory reporting guidelines.
  • Support new staff and intern onboarding as needed.
Who You Are:

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Believes in equity, social justice, and survivor self-determination.
  • Has experience with crisis intervention or trauma-informed advocacy.
  • Is reliable, empathetic, and comfortable in a dynamic team environment.
  • Is able to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Is comfortable working in a pet-friendly environment.
What You Bring:
  • Previous experience in domestic violence services or related fields.
  • Strong communication skills, especially under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and client database systems.
  • Physical ability to:
    • Climb stairs, lift up to 60 pounds, and respond quickly in emergencies.
    • Sit, stand, kneel, and perform light physical tasks as needed.
  • Requirements:
    • WA State background check
    • Valid WA driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation

About DAWN:
DAWN is a holistic domestic violence agency located in South King County supporting survivors of domestic violence, the community, and other social services agencies towards the goal of ending domestic violence. Through our wide variety of programming, we strive to serve survivors wherever they are in their relationships, meeting their needs as they prioritize them, and working with them physically wherever they deem safe, within the South King County region. Our programs include a 24-hour advocacy support hotline, confidential emergency shelter, mobile/community advocacy, support groups, legal advocacy, immigrant advocacy, children’s advocacy, mental health services, TANF advocacy, prevention and education services, and the marketplace food program. While working with us, survivors and their families are offered advocacy, resources, and a safe place to begin again.
