Description
Tim Laporte, the Director of Public Works for the City of Kent will present plans for the Lower Russell Road Levee project. There will be a follow up meeting on June 8th from King County Flood Control District. Below is more information on the project and the follow up meeting.
Attend an open house June 8 in Kent to learn more about a project to improve flood protection along the Green River.
The King County Flood Control District (FCD) hosts the community meeting and open house,Flood Control Zone District Logo where details will be shared about the flood risk reduction project to replace and upgrade 1.4 miles of existing levee and revetment along the east bank of the Green River between South 212th Street and Veterans Drive/South 228th Street.
Set for 5-7:30 p.m. at the Kent Commons Community Center, 525 Fourth Ave. N. (corner of James Street and Fourth Avenue North), this will be the second public meeting where residents can learn more about the project. The meeting will include an open house to review conceptual project alternatives, a presentation of the project, and an opportunity to ask questions and provide input into project alternative selection.
Project alternatives will be presented that provide increased flood protection, relocate and improve Van Doren’s Landing Park and the Green River Trail, and create shallow water and floodplain habitat along the Green River. Selection of a preferred alternative by the FCD is expected this summer, and construction is expected to begin in 2017.
Currently, FCD funds for this project total $17.7 million. The King County Rivers and Floodplain Management Section is managing the project in partnership with the City of Kent.
