The Government Affairs committee develops the Chamber’s legislative agenda for issues addressed at the State legislature. The committee is comprised of small business, corporate members and municipal leaders from Kent and around the region. The committee evaluates local, regional and state issues that affect the business climate and quality of life (including initiatives and referendum). After extensive evaluation on issues the committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding the Chamber’s position on issues.
The January Policy Maker is School Board Member Maya Vengadasalam
About our Policy Maker:
I am a 22-year Kent resident and a business and community affairs consultant focusing on technology and non-profit technical assistance. My long-term role as a volunteer with multiple organizations demonstrates my leadership in the community, particularly on education issues. One challenge facing families and schools is the lack of proper communication channels and the necessary support systems to ensure that every child succeeds in school and in life. With your support, I will ensure that all children have equal access and opportunities to reach their full potential.
